Porcelain is a combination of earthen materials composed of kaolin and ball clays, feldspar and silica mixed in precise proportions. The mixture is cast or formed and then  fired to high temperatures. When cooled, the body has great strength and is able to hold very delicate detail. A porcelain body will have some transparency and will absorb less than .5% water.
